LITERARY TERMS AND DEVICES; writers use this things to impress the audience and add some feeling gesture music and emotions etc.
- ALLITERATION; a type of figure of speech , same sound repeation, not mandantory repeatation of letters,
example – 1. baba baba black sheep, 2. crooks conspire with the kind king
Conditions for alliteration is- sound will be stressed and come at starting at words pronunciation[first letter and will be stressed sound], and words may not be in series or continues way
- Consonance- a truck full of unlucky ducks ; same sound repeatation in middle of the word, its has sound of consonant
- Assonance- she seems to beam; same sound repeatation in middle of the word, its has sound of vowel.
- Allegory – it has a hidden meaning . like moral spritual social political etc. this is show by there works in events, character, incident etc. not saying clearly but has hidden meaning. We can use symbuls in allegory but only use of symbuls is not an allegory . allegory is big poem. Broader and moral meaning . Example; the faerie queene works of Edmund spenser moral and spritual allegory, animal farm political allegory.
Types of allegory- 1 historical – it has historical figures, and real events.
2 conceptual- no real events
- Symbolism – not use of allegory, use for sharing an abstruct idea, example- the mocking bird, its has short meaning
- Allusion- a brief, indirect reference to a person, place, event, or artistic work, example ; my sister smile like monalisa etc
- Apostrophe- when a character talking to an absent person or a thing
- Blank verse; metre follow but rhyme don’t first time introduce in Aeneid when translating it by henry howard an Italian technique of writing verso sciolto, classical English literature no use of rhyme.
